Devised by Engine in collaboration with The Whitworth, A180 Darts,  Manchester Pale Ale (MPA), Creative Tourist, Arts Council England and Culture24, 2016’s D’Arts Festival brought together local darts teams and leading artists for a unique darts tournament in the Grand Hall of this award-winning and internationally acclaimed gallery.

With the bar, beer and MPA supplied by Manchester brewery, JW Lees, the evening had all the usual darts match spectacle with a real sense of occasion. The event had established North West teams competing alongside teams formed from Manchester and Salford’s creative and cultural communities, with cash prizes of £500 for the winning team and £250 for the runner up.

On the night, players competed on boards house in specially-commissioned oches, designed by four leading Manchester artists: Mary Griffiths, Jai Redman and Joe Hartley (in collaboration with) Rob Bailey.

The finals were played on a traditional Manchester Board, and were compared by ‘Mr Darts’ John Gwynne. The winners were a Manchester team the ‘Nomads’.
